30 Days of...Josh Hartnett?
Josh Hartnett. We've never been able to get a read on the guy. Mostly, we don't like him. As an actor, of course. We're sure he's a nice guy. But now he's headlining the adaptation of one of the most-beloved graphic novels ever, 30 Days of Night, and he looks like the film's Meadow Soprano. The trailer looks pretty great - lots of mood, tension, and implied violence - and we're psyched to see Ben Foster (who'se been uniformly great for about three years now) as "The Stranger." Yet...Hartnett. We can't get past him. Maybe we're just being picky, but the guy comes off as a blank slate.
He can't play cop (The Black Dahlia). He can't play bad guy (Sin City). He can't play hero (Pearl Harbor). He can't play goofy (40 Days and 40 Nights). Really, the only thing we've seen him pull off is brooding teen (The Faculty), and we think he might be a bit old for those roles. But if he pulls this off, we're willing to forgive him. It has the aura of excellence surrounding it, though we wouldn't be surprised if it ended up like Underworld.
